Responsible for providing network consulting services on behalf of Digitaldune. Visited customer sites and planned, implemented, and repaired networks and built, installed, and repaired required and existing machines and devices. Also responsible for many in-house networking operations as described in previous Digitaldune Networks entry. In addition to those listed below, in-house responsibilities included implementing ISP-wide web-caching services (Squid), Internet firewalls (OpenBSD/FreeBSD and IPFilter/ipfw), and replacing previously static routing setup with a dynamic system (OSPF). Also rebuilt all server machines to use FreeBSD (4.x), replacing the previous Linux (2.2.x) installations.
Responsible for Verza's systems and networks. Administered and monitored systems and networks in San Francisco and Amsterdam. System administration duties included installing and maintaining Linux (SuSE 6.x and 7.0) machines, FreeBSD (4.x) machines, OpenBSD (2.7/2.8) machines, and Windows NT 4.0 Workstation machines. Network administration duties included insuring nominal connectivity between machines at each location, machines between locations, and from each location to the Internet. Also responsible for configuring and maintaining Internet firewalls (OpenBSD 2.7/2.8 and IPFilter), Oracle servers, fail-safe data storage (Integrix RAID products), web servers (Apache) serving dynamic content (mod_perl), manipulating and exporting data from Oracle databases (Perl, DBI, C), providing Internet mail services (Postfix, Cyrus IMAP), and Internet name resolution services (djbdns, BIND).
Responsible for developing highly dynamic and complex web-based applications using PHP 3/4, Perl, PostgreSQL, and MySQL. Extensive administration of MySQL and PostgreSQL databases, as well as database development, programming, and implementation. Also responsible for FreeBSD systems administration, as well as installation and configuration of development machines. Administration duties include maintaining systems, using Perl and DBI to manipulate data in databases for export to other developing applications, configuring and troubleshooting Apache (along with Apache-SSL, mod_ssl, mod_php 3/4, and mod_perl), and general system monitoring tasks.
Responsible for Digitaldune's systems and network. Duties included technical support, customer service, sales, marketing, systems administration (UNIX-based and NT systems), programming (C/C++, Perl, Python, Shell), web design/development (PHP 3/4), database design/programming (MySQL and PostgreSQL with PHP, Perl, and C), providing network-based authentication (NIS, RADIUS), network-based filesystems (NFS, Samba) and electronic mail services (qmail, Sendmail). Also planned and implemented area's first high-speed wireless data network (BreezeCOM BreezeNET Products).
Worked with Windows-based PC's. Duties included building and upgrading machines and configuring for customer needs, diagnosing and fixing software problems with customer machines, and diagnosing and fixing hardware problems with customer machines.
